Dr. Bradley Dykstra, Clinical & Technical Advisory Board
Dr. Dykstra, a 1978 graduate of the University Of Michigan School Of Dentistry, is the owner of Hudsonville Dental Associates in Hudsonville, Michigan. Dr. Dykstra has been using digital radiography in his practice since the 1990s and converted into electronic records in 2002. Dr. Dykstra is an expert in a suite of other technologies useful for the dental office, including dental lasers, digital impressions and clinical management practice software.
Dr. Dykstra also owns Anchor Dental Consulting, a consulting firm that helps dentists integrate new technologies into their practices. Dr. Dykstra has been published in Dentistry Today, Dental Practice Reports, and other industry publications. He has been named a Leader in Dental Consulting by Dentistry Today every year from 2006 through 2010.
Steve Semmelmayer, Dental Industry Advisory Board
Mr. Semmelmayer has built over 32 years of experience and relationships in the dental industry. A notable recent accomplishment was ending a 27-month job as CEO of Discus Dental by selling the business to Philips Electronics, manufacturer of the Sonicare dental products. The value of the transaction was over $170 million.
In addition to the Discus/Philips transaction, Mr. Semmelmayer has been involved in over 20 other transactions in the dental industry.
Mr. Semmelmayer is now Chief Executive Officer of DenMat, a rapidly growing provider of high quality dental equipment, materials and dental laboratory services.
Mr. Semmelmayer is also an Independent Director at American Dental Partners, Inc., a publically traded (NASDAQ: ADPI) provider of services, staff and dental facilities to dental group practices in the United States.
Garrett Sato, Dental Industry Advisory Board
Mr. Sato has over 25 years of experience in the dental industry. He started in the orthodontic industry with ORMCO in 1987 and held executive positions at the Kerr Corporation, an SDS Company. He has also served as President of Orascoptic, a Danaher Company, from 2004 to 2009.
After serving 21 months as Executive Vice President at Discus Dental, a Philips Company, Mr. Sato is now Chief Executive Officer of Danville Materials, a provider of high quality, cost effective clinical materials for dentistry.
David Avery, CDT, AAS, Dental Lab Advisory Board
Mr. Avery is the Director of Professional Services at Drake Precision Dental Laboratory in Charlotte, North Carolina. He received his AS degree in dental laboratory technology from Durham Technical College in Durham, North Carolina in 1976. He achieved his Certified Dental Technician status in 1986. During his career, he has served as a private technician, full service laboratory owner and since 1986, a member of the Drake executive management team.
Mr. Avery has an ongoing academic relationship with undergraduate and postgraduate dental students at the University of North Carolina, Medical College of Georgia, Virginia Commonwealth University, University of Tennessee, University of Mississippi, Tufts University and West Virginia dental schools. He is also a visiting lecturer at the GPR and Oral Medicine programs at Carolina’s Medical Center, Wake Forest University, University of Virginia Medical Center, as well as numerous residency programs within the US Veteran’s Administration and Armed Forces.
Mr. Avery has published in numerous laboratory and clinical journals and has presented more than 700 scientific programs for local, regional and national professional clinical and laboratory organizations covering every aspect of Dental Laboratory Technology and Communication.
He is a board member of the Dental Technician Alliance of The American College of Prosthodontists. He serves on the editorial boards of “Compendium of Dental Education,” “The Journal of Dental Technology,” “Inside Dental Technology” and “Inside Dental Assisting.” He also serves as Dental Laboratory Technology Editor for the ”Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry” and as Continuing Education Director for “Inside Dental Technology” magazine. He is a faculty member at the Pankey Institute for Continuing Dental Education.
Dr. Pierre Mourad, Scientific & Technical Advisory Board
Dr. Mourad has experience commercializing ultrasound devices, including in the dental space, as manifest by the Ultreo toothbrush. In that instance, he delivered value on both the scientific and business sides of the venture — multi-valued contributions that are appreciated by S-Ray.
Dr. Mourad is a Principal Physicist within the Center for Industrial and Medical Ultrasound at the Applied Physics Laboratory, which is part of the University of Washington. He also holds an Associate Professorship in the Department of Neurological Surgery, as well as an Adjunct Associate Professorship in each of the Departments of Bioengineering and Pediatric Dentistry. S-Ray has a collaborative research partnership with the University of Washington and works via the Center for Industrial and Medical Ultrasound at the University.
